The goals of our 1:1 program are:

1. Ensure that all students have a device that will help them be successful in their learning.

2. Students are trained on how to use their devices and are aware of the expectations when using a school-issued device.

CIPA: Requires schools and libraries to have an internet safety policy that includes technology protection measures. The protection measures must block or filter Internet access to pictures that are (a) obscene; (b) child pornography; or (c) harmful to minors (for computers that are accessed by minors).

COPPA: protects the privacy and personally-identifying information of children under the age of 13 who use online services.

FERPA: Protects the privacy of student education records. Schools need written permission from parents or eligible students to release any information from a student's education record.

Copyright: Protects all original, creative works in a fixed form. Works created after January 1, 1978, are covered by copyright for a term equaling the life of the author plus 70 years after their death. Not included: facts and public information, printed maps, or government documents or pictures (Images and text from sources like NASA, the Smithsonian, and the National Archives can be used without permission)

Fair Use: Promotes freedom of expression by permitting "the unlicensed used of copyright-protected works under certain circumstances" a sort of legal counterbalance to copyright that allows for creativity. Four factors are used to determine if something is protected by fair use.

Washington House Bill 1365: Procuring and supporting appropriate computers and devices for public school students and instructional staff. The district is required to report to OSPI every other November on the status of our 1:1 program. The district is also required to provide training and support to students and families on how to use and be safe on their school-issued devices.
