Eight students were selected for the SME Leadership Team. One Kindergarten student, one-second grade students, third-grade students, two fourth grade students, and two fifth grade students. In order to become part of the SME Leadership Team, these students went through an application process. Students interested in joining the team had to demonstrate good leadership abilities, good citizenship, a strong work ethic, and excellent attendance.
The students also had to fill out and turn in a questionnaire that included questions such as, “What are some goals that you have for making improvements at SME? And “If selected, how will you show leadership skills (such as be safe, be respectful and be responsible) while you are in the Student Leadership Team?, Two teacher recommendations and parent permission were also requirements. Students with completed applications went through an interview with Vice-Principal Nicki Swanson.
Students in the leadership team have a lot of responsibilities and play an important role for the students of SME. Some of these responsibilities include taking visitors on school tours, working with the SME Parent Teacher Organization, being volunteers during SME events, and overall promoting school spirit and being a good role model of the Warrior Code.
They will also be running fundraisers to sponsor a Buddy Bench and a Gaga Ball play pit for SME students to use during their recess. Their current fundraiser is selling popcorn to classmates and SME staff during lunch. Students have visited the Wahluke Junior High and Wahluke High School leadership classes to learn new activities, actions and tips they could implement at SME.
The leadership team has a lot of plans and exciting things coming up, like having lunch with the Mattawa Mayor and increasing students' involvement in school-wide activities. There is no doubt that they will help make the correct decisions for the benefit of the faculty, students and community.
Ocho estudiantes fueron seleccionados para el Equipo de Liderazgo de SME. Un estudiante de Kindergarten, estudiantes de un segundo grado, estudiantes de tercer grado, dos estudiantes de cuarto grado y dos estudiantes de quinto grado. Para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo de SME, estos estudiantes pasaron por un proceso de solicitud. Los estudiantes interesados en unirse al equipo tuvieron que demostrar buenas habilidades de liderazgo, buena ciudadanía, una fuerte ética de trabajo y excelente asistencia.
Los estudiantes también tuvieron que completar y entregar un cuestionario que incluía preguntas tales como: “¿Cuáles son algunos de los objetivos que tiene para hacer mejoras en las SME? Y "Si lo seleccionas, ¿cómo mostrarás habilidades de liderazgo (como ser seguro, ser respetuoso y ser responsable) mientras estás en el Equipo de Liderazgo Estudiantil? Dos recomendaciones de maestros y el permiso de los padres también fueron requisitos. Los estudiantes con solicitudes completas pasaron por una entrevista con la subdirectora Nicki Swanson.
Los estudiantes en el equipo de liderazgo tienen muchas responsabilidades y juegan un papel importante para los estudiantes de PYME. Algunas de estas responsabilidades incluyen llevar a los visitantes a los recorridos escolares, trabajar con la organización de padres y maestros de las PYME, ser voluntarios durante los eventos de las SME y, en general, promover el espíritu escolar y ser un buen modelo a seguir del Código Guerrero.
También organizarán eventos de recaudación de fondos para patrocinar un Buddy Bench y un pozo de juego Gaga Ball para que los estudiantes de las SME los utilicen durante su recreo. Su recaudador de fondos actual está vendiendo palomitas de maíz a los compañeros de clase y al personal de las SME durante el almuerzo. Los estudiantes han visitado las clases de liderazgo de Wahluke Junior High y Wahluke High School para aprender nuevas actividades, acciones y consejos que podrían implementar en las SME.
El equipo de liderazgo tiene muchos planes y cosas emocionantes por venir, como almorzar con el alcalde de Mattawa y aumentar la participación de los estudiantes en actividades escolares. No hay duda de que ayudarán a tomar las decisiones correctas en beneficio del profesorado, los estudiantes y la comunidad.
