Archaeology Days is back! Oct. 25-26 at the Wanapum Heritage Center Archaeology Days is back to mix learning with fun at the Wanapum Heritage Center after a two-year hiatus during the COVID pandemic. Kids have their own day, Oct. 25, for some hands-on, kid-friendly learning about the customs and crafts of native, Columbia Plateau people, as well as area geology, river ecosystems, flora, fauna, hydropower and more. Kids should bring their own lunches and gather 'round the exhibits from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Adults have a day of their own, Oct. 26, which include a salmon lunch prepared and served by the Wanapum. The roster of speakers is currently being compiled and will be available at the event. Topics will include Native American rights, the cultural heritage of the Columbia Basin and area geology carved by the Ice Age floods. Come for the full day — 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — and enjoy hours fascinating discussion, crafts demonstrations and more. Archaeology Days is co-hosted by Grant PUD and the Wanapum Heritage Center. The event coincides with Washington State Archaeology Month.

Today was a great day for showing some market goats at Adams County Fair! Lots of blue ribbons for all of our students! We had Javier, Rafael, Cynthia,& Madi place top of their class and they were 4 of 7 competing in the championship round. Tomorrow is the Fit & show round!

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and the District's Student Support Services Department will be hosting Care Day - Count on Me Day by wearing Turquoise or Purple on September 8th, 2022. The goal is to encourage EVERYONE, staff, students, and our community to wear turquoise or purple for this day to help raise awareness for #SuicidePrevention, care, and remind everyone of the importance of taking care of ourselves and one another.

The Technology Department will be hosting three make-up sessions this week for all Wahluke School District families who could not attend a session during Open House. Open House for all WSD Schools Today, August 22, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Each school is open for parents and students to ask questions, meet their teachers, and complete annual forms. The Technology Department will also have two Technology Parent Information Sessions at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm that families will need for their students to receive their new technology for the school year. Sessions in each building are held in: MES: Gym MSE: The Hub SME: Library WJH: Library WHS: Commons Families only need to attend one session for all their students and can complete paperwork for all students simultaneously. Wahluke Public School Employees Chapter held Lunch for all New Classified Staff to Introduce the Wahluke Chapter Union Executive Board, Provide Union Information, and enjoy a few Raffle Prizes. PSE Members enjoyed some delicious pizza. PES raffled gift cards for coffee at Sky's Coffee, Corvid Coffee, Subway, and a Grand Prize of $50 dollars on anything. This week (August 15-18) Wahluke School District is hosting our annual Staff Training Days. August 15 & 16 were specifically dedicated to new staff they covered and learned about the CEL5D+ Framework, Para Fundamental Course of Study Training, met the district admin and directors and were also able to take the annual Wahluke Equity & Leadership Bus Tour. August 17&18 will be dedicated to all WSD staff and will cover topics such as School Safety Operation and Coordination, Social Emotional Learning, iReady, and Technology. As well as building specific training and conversations. August 19th will be our 2022-2023 Kick-off Staff Lunch Celebration with guest speaker Mark Schumacher. This celebration is special as we will be honoring our staff for their years of service to the district. The theme of this year's staff training days is 80s! Be on the lookout for more pictures and memories we will share throughout the week. Please help us give a warm welcome to our new staff (pictured below) who are joining our district this year! _________________________ Esta semana (del 15 al 18 de agosto) el Distrito Escolar de Wahluke está organizando nuestros Días anuales de Entrenamiento del Personal. Los días 15 y 16 de agosto estuvieron dedicados específicamente al personal nuevo que cubrieron y aprendieron sobre el Marco CEL5D+, la Capacitación del Curso de Estudio Para Fundamental, se reunieron con el administrador y los directores del distrito y también pudieron tomar el recorrido anual en autobús de Equidad y Liderazgo de Wahluke. Los días 17 y 18 de agosto estarán dedicados a todo el personal de WSD y cubrirán temas como el funcionamiento y la coordinación de la seguridad escolar, el aprendizaje socioemocional, iReady y la tecnología. Así como construir capacitaciones y conversaciones específicas. El 19 de agosto será nuestra celebración del almuerzo del personal de lanzamiento de 2022-2023 con el orador invitado Mark Schumacher. Esta celebración es especial ya que honraremos a nuestro personal por sus años de servicio al distrito. ¡El tema de los días de capacitación del personal de este año es los años 80! Shoutout to our District Information and Technology Services Department for all their work over the summer. With the help of our students and staff, the I.T. has collected over 6,000 devices which consisted of computers, iPads, technical devices including P.C.s, and classroom devices. These items were either inventoried and/or surplused. They have also unpacked and organized over 2,200 new technology devices, including Ctl ChromeBook computers and Acer Chromebook computers as well as1,850 new Chromebook cases. This has not been an easy task, but the Tech Team is excited to be rolling out new technology to all of our students this upcoming school year, as well as sharing the Technology Rollout Plan with students, parents, and staff. This plan will include training and conversations around Digital Citizenship, Digital Literacy and much more. ___________________ Gracias a nuestro Departamento de Servicios de Información y Tecnología del Distrito por todo su trabajo durante el verano. Con la ayuda de nuestros estudiantes y personal, el equipo tecnológia ha recopilado más de 6000 dispositivos que consistían en computadoras, iPads, dispositivos técnicos, incluidas PC, y dispositivos para el aula. Congratulations, Mr. Dan Oppelt! Mr. Oppelt was recognized for 15 years at Wahluke School District and 30+ years in education as a teacher and coach. WSD Superintendent Andy Harlow awarded him a crystal apple statuette during our first ever WSD athletic summit. We are grateful and proud to have had Mr. Oppelt teach at Wahluke High School and Wahluke Junior High and coach many students in Football and Golf. WSD offers our heartfelt congratulations to him in recognition of this service milestone. Thank you for so many wonderful years of dedication to our students and schools. Just a couple of days left until the Teaching and Learning Department closes the review for the Instructional Material for the Social Studies Curriculum for Kinder-8th grade and the Since Time Immemorial curriculum for Kinder-12th grades.
