WSD is extremely excited to announce Gigi Calaway as our new Student Support Services Director! Gigi and her husband, Kip, have been part of our community for the last 30 years. They have raised their children on their family farm here in Mattawa, and they’ve all been part of the Wahluke School District. Gigi has worked for WSD over the last 5+ years as our Community Coordinator and Prevention Director. Previously, she worked implementing school and community-based prevention programs as a community health educator, grant manager, and prevention specialist. WSD knows Gigi loves her community, the staff & students of Wahluke and is extremely excited to serve in a capacity where she can coordinate the essential support systems that are vital for the success of every student at WSD. 🎉 😁 📚 🎉 😁 📚 🎉 😁 📚 🎉 😁 📚 🎉 😁 📚 ¡WSD está muy emocionado de anunciar a Gigi Calaway como nuestra nueva Directora de Servicios de Apoyo Estudiantil! Gigi y su esposo, Kip, han sido parte de nuestra comunidad durante los últimos 30 años. Han criado a sus hijos en la granja familiar aquí en Mattawa, y todos han sido parte del distrito escolar de Wahluke. The teaching and learning department is seeking feedback from Parents and Community Members to review the Instructional Material for the Social Studies Curriculum for Kinder-8th grade and the Since Time Immemorial curriculum for Kinder-12th grades. The curriculum materials will be available to review starting today July 7th until July 31st at the WSD Administration Office: 411 E. Saddle Mountain Drive, Mattawa, WA 99349 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. WSD is extremely excited to announce Gabriela Chacon as our new Interim Director of Finance! Gabby is a WHS graduate and earned her AA Degree from Columbia Basin Community College. In addition, Gabby graduated summa cum laude from Heritage University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. WSD is working with ESD 105 and other school finance mentors to help support Gabby and the Finance & Business Department with this transition. We are excited to see her grow in this new role and are thankful for her ambition and perseverance. Congratulations Gabby! 🎉 🤑 📚 🎉 🤑 📚 🎉 🤑 📚 ¡WSD está extremadamente emocionado de anunciar a Gabriela Chacón como nuestra nueva directora interina de finanzas! During this summer WSD will be sharing our newest District Administrators and Directors. We are excited to be announcing our newest team members and are excited about all the work they will be doing in our schools. Please join us in congratulating them and wishing them well. Shoutout to our Maintenance and Grounds Team! They are working on various summer projects and as you can see have done a fantastic job. So far they have repainted parking lots 🖌 throughout the district, removed wood bark from the SME playground and replaced it with rubber bark to be aligned with playground safety standards 🦺 . As well as installed card access on all main exterior doors 🔐 throughout the district and is currently in the process of repairing portable ramps. Thank you, WSD Maintenance and Grounds Team, for all the updates and projects you have completed thus far. ________ Un saludo a nuestro equipo de mantenimiento y jardines. Están trabajando en varios proyectos de verano y como pueden ver han hecho un trabajo fantástico. A friendly reminder about the WSD District Office Summer Hours. The office will be open Monday - Thursday from 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM and closed on Fridays. Starting July 2022, WSD Fitness Center Fees will be going up by $5 for staff and community members who purchase a membership. Free Meals are available for kids 4 days per week until August 11. Our distribution locations include Mattawa Elementary, Hund Memorial Park, Desert Aire Park, and Wanapum Longhouse. All sites will be closed on July 4. The USDA encourages children to eat their meals while on-site and parents are not allowed to pick up meals without their children present. Affordable Connectivity Program: WSD would like to share with our families information about the Affordable Connectivity Program, a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides monthly internet service and one-time connected device benefits from participating internet companies for qualifying low-income consumers. This program can provide a discount to take $30 off monthly internet bills for qualifying households located at your address. To find out if your home qualifies by completing the Complete the ACP household worksheet by following the link or scanning the QR code. A massive shoutout to all the cohort participants of the first-ever WSD Level-up your Leadership Classes! The Level-up Leadership classes helped develop and elevate our district and community leaders. Participants had the opportunity to go through highly interactive and deeply engaging sessions led by diverse faculty who shared their wisdom and practical perspective to support their leadership growth. Thank you to all the parents and community members who attended the Parent Safety and Security Informational Night. We had about 100 guests who asked questions and had some great conversations about the Safety and Security of our students and schools. WSD is committed to having more of these informational nights for the next school year and will continuously work to improve Safety and Security measures as we continue our collaboration with Parents, our community, local law enforcement agencies, and other organizations. __________ Gracias a todos los padres y miembros de la comunidad que asistieron a la Noche Informativa de Protección y Seguridad para Padres. Multilingual Multiculture Program Parent Meeting will be on Wednesday, May 11th at 6:00 PM at the Wahluke High School Commons. Food will be provided at 5:30 PM.
